Speed Rally is a brand new set of miniature rules designed to be used with any 1/64 scale die-cast car --the kind you can find in any toy store, supermarket or online. There are literally thousands and thousands of vehicles available from, just for example, toy lines such as Hot Wheels®, Matchbox®, Jada Toys®, Johnny Lightning® and many more.

It doesn't matter if they're fresh from the package or from the bottom of your old toy box, Speed Rally gives you the tools to create game stats for virtually any kind of vehicle and race them against one another.

More importantly, you can race them anywhere you have space! You can make your own track (you can download here and print out on a home printer), but you can just as easily set up a race course around your backyard, across the kitchen floor or over the family room furniture.

Whether you want to race wacky vehicles in a cartoon setting or coast-to-coast death races where points are scored for running over pedestrians, Speed Rally gives you the rules to generate your favorite cars and drivers -- or create your own.

Setting up a race course

Speed Rally is designed to be played anywhere -- from elaborate set ups (like the one you see here) to races across the kitchen floor or around the family room furniture.

The following photos are from the premiere Speed Rally race at Historicon 2008. The track (available here) was printed out on a laserwriter and glued to black foamcore (the buildings were built from hubcaps, plastic bits and old AOL CDs, and are not included in the game.)

Speed Rally is playable with 2 to 20 gamers (although ten is the optimal number). Rules are simple, fast and fun, and races can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the number of players.

Speed Rally was inspired by the extreme -- and often crazy -- races you've seen in dozens of movies, TV shows and Saturday morning cartoons. You know the kind: the ones with gadget-filled cars, colorful characters and over-the-top villains who will stop at nothing to win, all speeding around amazing jump-filled tracks or roaring cross-country over dangerous terrain.

With Speed Rally you can run simple races using straightforward sports cars, or create colorful plots and outlandish drivers. Speed Rally takes into consideration all the action and adventure of the genre. Heroes, villains, secret agents and sentient cars abound -- the level of detail is up to you.
